Did Not Make The Cut #2

The Backlog? Just Ignore It.
Description

This one falls somewhere between a rookie mistake and a genuinely noble attempt to improve the product… derailed by the ever-present X-Factor: the Rogue Refactoring Developer.

Pete decides to take ownership of the backlog.
Not talk about it. Not groom it. Actually fix it.

Five days. After hours. Zero distractions.
32 fixes, cleanly stacked in his working branch — a rare moment of engineering optimism.

Enter Lee.

Pete: Hey all — heads up, I have been chipping away at the backlog this week.
Got 32 bug fixes ready in my branch.
(QA) Quinn: Wait… this is the first I am hearing of this.
Pete: It wasn't planned. I saw. I conquered.
(QA) Quinn: I don't have time to test this and Lee's refactor.
Pete: This is the first I am hearing about a refactor.
(Lead) Lee: Just a small cleanup. You will want to pull latest.
Pete: …define “small”
(QA) Quinn: This is why we cannot have nice things.
Pete: Pulling now
Pete: I regret everything.
Lesson Learned

Sometimes the hardest part of fixing the backlog…
is surviving the timeline where the codebase itself gets rewritten.
